These red chili oil wontons are mouth watering packages of deliciousness. The savory and juicy pork filling pairs perfectly with the heat of the chili oil. Serve the wontons as an appetizer or as the main course for dinner alongside vegetable fried rice, garlic green beans, marinated bok choy, diced cucumber with your leftover chili oil – the options are endless! continue reading ››

simply the best. [crab cakes w. remoulade]

June 22nd, 2020 by | comments

If you’re a fan of crab cakes, you’ve come to the right place. Since my dad’s office is based in Greenville, South Carolina, he travels to the city often – but of course not now, due to COVID-19. This recipe is just slightly altered from one of our family’s favorite restaurants in Greenville called Soby’s. And boy, do they know how to make a decadent crab cake! I can’t wait for you to try this recipe and share it with your friends and family.

fire up the griddle. [classic smash burger]

May 29th, 2020 by | comments

To celebrate National Burger Day yesterday AKA my favorite day of the year, I decided to try my hand at the classic smash burger. Gathering inspiration from the delicious cheeseburger at Burgers Never Say Die in Los Angeles, this burger is classic and simple yet packed with flavor. The sharpness of the diced raw onion pairs perfectly with the ketchup, yellow mustard and vinegary pickles. If you are able to locate Martin’s Potato Rolls sandwich rolls, they really take this burger (and any burger/sandwich, really) over the top!

luscious. [homemade spinach & ricotta ravioli w. sage brown butter sauce]

May 12th, 2020 by | comments

Ever since my husband and I took a cooking class at Montese Cooking Experience in San Gimignano, Italy for our honeymoon in 2018, I have been itching to make homemade ravioli. This recipe is loosely based off of the ravioli we made in the class, which was in-cred-ible. If you ever have the chance to make it to San Gimignano, I highly recommend taking this cooking class – the instructor, Mauro was so sweet and incredibly knowledgeable.

small but mighty. [mini beef empanadas]

May 1st, 2020 by | comments

Although this time has been extremely difficult for everyone, it has given us the opportunity to reflect on what we value. I miss seeing my family and friends, working from the office with my co-workers, dining at delicious restaurants with my husband, etc., but have found other ways to stay busy and positive. Without a work commute, I’ve been spending much more time in the kitchen trying new recipes and methods. These mini beef empanadas were inspired by a dish at DAMA, an incredible Latin restaurant in downtown Los Angeles. This recipe came pretty close, but I still need to figure out how DAMA makes their drool-worthy Brazilian hot vinegar!

never go back. [homemade lasagna bolognese]

April 22nd, 2020 by | comments

Now that I’ve made lasagna entirely from scratch, I can honestly say I never want to go back to store-bought noodles – which is somewhat unfortunate, because this recipe will take hours of your time. But if you enjoy cooking (and lasagna) as much as I do, it won’t matter because it is SO worth it in the end! The homemade noodles make all of the difference and take this lasagna to another planet. The ingredient list and instructions may appear a bit daunting, but please don’t let that deter you from making this delicious dish!

stack it. [fluffy homemade pancakes]

November 25th, 2019 by | comments

I’ve never been much of a sweets person when it comes to breakfast food – I prefer something on the savory side (i.e. loaded breakfast burrito). My husband, on the other hand, has a huge sweet tooth and has been craving pancakes for weeks. I finally caved yesterday morning and surprised him with these fluffy and delicious homemade pancakes. They were super easy to make and turned out exactly as we’d hoped. I even enjoyed them! ;)

non-traditional. [irish nachos]

November 18th, 2019 by | comments

Growing up, one of my favorite things to order when out to dinner with my family was Irish nachos. Although traditional Irish nachos are made with sliced potatoes, I have always preferred the versions made with french fries. I was inspired to recreate this delicious dish over the weekend to accompany a day full of football. Since I was just making this dish for myself and my husband, the portion size is for approximately two people, but go ahead and double or triple the ‘recipe’ (it’s not much of a recipe!) if you are entertaining more guests.
