speechless. [honey ham & jarlsberg cheese sandwich w. pesto aioli & mango chutney]
I almost can’t put into words how incredible this sandwich tastes. Its complexity of flavors is ridiculous, from the sweetness of the honey ham to the bite of the Jarlsberg cheese to the savoriness of the pesto aioli. The crispy, tomato basil bread from Panera makes the sandwich even more delicious, if that’s possible.

Ingredients
- Pesto recipe:
- 1 cup coarsely chopped fresh basil
- ¼ cup pine nuts, toasted
- ¼ cup finely grated parmesan
- 2 tsp. garlic, minced
- ¼ tsp. salt
- ⅛ tsp. black pepper
- ⅓ cup olive oil, plus more to reach desired consistency
- 1½ - 2 cups mayonnaise, plus more if needed
- Sandwich recipe:
- Pesto aioli
- ½ - ¾ lb. honey ham, sliced
- 1 lb. (16 oz.) Jarlsberg cheese, sliced into thin pieces
- ½ jar Major Grey’s Mango Chutney
- Panera Tomato Basil bread
- Butter, to spread on both pieces of bread before grilling
Instructions
- For the pesto: Pulse basil, toasted pine nuts, parmesan, garlic, salt and pepper in a food processor until finely chopped. With motor running, add oil in a slow stream and blend until combined well. Transfer pesto to a bowl, then add mayonnaise until aioli reaches desired taste. Season with additional salt and pepper, if necessary.
- For the sandwiches: Place two slices of bread on a cutting board. Spread 2 tbsp. of pesto aioli on both pieces of bread, then spread 3 tbsp. of chutney on top of pesto on one half of the sandwich. On the piece of bread with just the aioli, layer sliced cheese across, then place 3 to 4 slices of honey ham on top. Add another few slices of cheese on top of the ham. Close the sandwich with the other piece of bread. Smear the top piece of bread with butter.
- Heat an indoor grill pan over medium heat. Place sandwich, butter side down, on grill. Next, butter the side of bread facing upwards. Cook sandwich about 2 minutes; once grill marks appear, turn sandwich diagonal to get cross-hatch grill marks, and cook another minute. Once sandwich is toasted, flip over and repeat grilling with the other side.
- Remove sandwich from the grill and let sit for 1-2 minutes. Slice sandwich in half and enjoy.
