game day ready. [pizza dip]

January 30th, 2012 by | comments

With the Super Bowl fast approaching, I thought it fitting to feature my go-to game day snack. Though extremely simple, this pizza dip has always been a favorite. I remember coming home from middle school and making a personal size dip for my afternoon snack (and eating the entire portion–that’s when calories didn’t count). But, I’ll be honest, I could still make a pretty big dent in the dip.

For more game day appetizer inspiration, head over to Greg’s page and check out his list.

pizza dip
Prep time:
Cook time:
Total time:

Ingredients
  • 1 brick (8 oz.) cream cheese
  • 1 jar (10 oz.) Trader Joe's pizza sauce
  • 1 bag (8 oz.) Trader Joe's organic grated mozzarella cheese
  • Volpi gourmet pepperoni, about 11 slices, or as needed
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Spread the cream cheese on the bottom of a shallow round glass pan. Spread the pizza sauce evenly on top of the cream cheese, then sprinkle the cheese on top. Distribute the pepperonis on top. Cook the dip for 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the edges are bubbling. Serve with tortilla chips.

  1. I made something similar to this years ago….not sure why I haven’t done it since! Looks like the perfect dip for game day.
Love the days when calories didn’t count :)

  2. Pizza DIP!? Holy crap, Caroline! This looks unbelievable. I don’t know a single person who wouldn’t like this dip. Well, I guess people who don’t like pizza. Or eat pepperoni. But who cares about those people???

  3. OMG Caroline! I remember something like this way back too!! And how I do remember it as I couldn’t stop eating it either!! I have to make this one, it will bring back alot of memories!! So glad you shared this!

  4. Mmmmmm! Fabulous! I’ve never seen this before and it looks so good! LOL – and I remember my after school snacks too – usually 1/2 of a big bag of doritos. Like you said, when calories didn’t count. Ah…the good ol’ days. Ha! :)

  5. Oh that looks good and something that would be a childhood favorite. I mean no offense by that. One of our guilty carried over from childhood dips, sour cream and lipton mix. Seriously, haven’t had it in years. That mix is sort of gross and probably has enough salt for a month. Thanks for the link!

  6. Oh, wow, does that look good. And completely healthy, right? I mean, calories don’t count on holidays, and isn’t Super Bowl Sunday a holiday??? :)

  7. Wow, I can’t believe this is a dip!!! I seriously thought this was a delicious looking pizza when I saw the photo, and now I see it’s a dip? Even better because it means you can eat even more and not worry about all the carbs from the bread! :D Nice one Caroline :)

  8. I’ve never heard of a pizza dip!…but with all my favorite parts of the pizza (cheeeese!), it sounds awesome.

  9. I think I haven’t seen such an appetising dip in my whole life! (I was sure at first it was actually a richly garnished pizza!) You have got me with pepperoni! I haven’t had it for ages.

  10. Erin, this is such a good idea and I must say that it sounds delicious. I have to give it a try. I hope you have a great day. Blessings…Mary

  11. WOW! This is the ultimate game-day snack!! Looks ultra fattening but so simple and delicious! Pepperoni, cheese and pizza sauce…. What more can I ask for? I wish we had Trader Joe’s here too!!!! <3 Enjoy game day!

  12. Oh yum! I’ve been seeing this dip around for the last few days… it looks perfect! I love pizza, and putting it in dip-form seems like such a wonderful way to eat it!

  13. OH my, my husband would LOVE this dip! It looks incredible!! I’m pinning this right now. I know this would be a huge hit at our house. :)

  14. A friend has made this dish for as long as I have known her. we generally stand around the table eating it straight out of the pan with Fritos!
